Coastline Elderly Presents Vehicles to Communities

New Bedford -- Coastline Elderly Services, Inc., the region's Area Agency on Aging and Aging Services Access Point, will award two new passenger lift-equipped maxi vans to the Councils on Aging in Fairhaven and New Bedford.

Delivery of the Fairhaven vehicle brings the total value of vehicles that Coastline has provided to the surrounding towns and communities to over $500,000. The vehicles, valued at over $60,000 were awarded to Coastline through a grant from the Executive Office of Transportation and Construction (EOTC) in Round 29 of the Mobility Assistance Program.

According to the Executive Director of Coastline, Charles Sisson, each community contributes 20 percent matching funds, and EOTC as the lien holder of 80 percent of the vehicle will maintain the title for a period of five years.

"At the completion of five years of operation, the title will be transferred to each community", Mr. Sisson Said.

Mr. Sisson  said the vehicles will assist each Council on Aging in providing needed transportation services to the region's elders and disabled, since many of them rely on the Councils on Aging for transportation to and from their doctor's appointments.
