Elderly Nutrition Program

The Elderly Nutrition Program provides hot noon time meals for individuals 60 years of age and older through two different programs - The Meals on Wheels Program for homebound elders and the Lunch Program at Senior Nutrition Sites.

The program is sponsored by Coastline Elderly Services, Inc. and is federally and state funded through Title III-C of the Older Americans Act and the Executive Office of Elder Affairs of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Donations from participants supplement these resources, and allow the program to expand the number of meals it provides. All contributions are welcome.

Volunteers are also welcome. Volunteers are needed to deliver the meals Monday through Friday and are reimbursed for the use of their vehicles. Volunteers are also needed to help serve prepared meals at the meal sites. Please contact us at (508)999-6400 for more information.

MEALS ON WHEELS
Meals On Wheels are provided on a short or long term basis to homebound elders 60 years or older who are unable to prepare a nutritionally balanced noon meal for themselves and are unable to attend congregate hot lunches.

Well-Being Check
Meals On Wheels are more than a hot lunch. The volunteers who deliver the meals ensure daily contact and a "well-being" check for elders who are alone during the day.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Referrals for services may come from elders or other community agencies as social services, hospital, doctors, or family
  • Elders are asked to call and give 24-hour notice for the start of the home meal delivery and for resuming or ending the service (508-999-6400).
  • There are no financial eligibility requirements. A minimal donation is requested.

SENIOR NUTRITION SITES
Hot noon meals are provided for consumers over 60 and their spouses. The meals are in a congregate setting at one of the fifteen convenient and handicap-accessible locations in the service area.

The meals are planned to provide between 700-800 calories, no added salt and one-third of the daily nutrients per meal as recommended for older adults. The meals contain no more than 30% of the daily fat allotment. Low sugar desserts and low fat milk are available for those who require this type of dietary item.

The added benefits of attending the hot lunches at one of the senior nutrition sites is socializing with friends and neighbors. In addition, the nutrition sites located at the Senior Centers offer a variety of programs such as health clinics, information and referral, recreation programs, exercise sessions, and craft classes.

Requirements:

  • Reservations must be made. Please call the Nutrition Sites by 11:00 a.m. one day in advance.
  • There are no financial eligibility requirements. A minimal donation is requested.
