More than just a place to live ... it's a unique combination of privacy and services, caring and sharing. Congregate Housing provides a shared living environment, which combines housing, in-home services and a mutually supportive social environment for older or disabled adults.
WHY CHOOSE CONGREGATE HOUSING?

Coastline Elderly Services, Inc. provides an on-site part-time residence coordinator who coordinates services for those who may need assistance with the daily activities of independent living. Services are available through Coastline or other organizations.
The services available include:
- Case management,
- Homemaker services, e.g., housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation,
- Transportation coordination,
- Personal care,
- One community meal per day, and

History
The Greek Revival mansion was built in 1831-32 for Congressman Joseph Grinnell. With the exception of a five-year period in the late 1800's, relatives of Joseph Grinnell occupied the mansion until it was transferred to the church of St. John the Baptist in 1940. The building was then used as a school from 1941 to 1957.
Waterfront Historical Art League of New Bedford (WHALE) purchased the long vacant historic structure in 1987 to preserve it. Today the Grinnell Congregate Home has retained many architectural features of the original mansion, which are reflected in the common areas as well as many of the one-bedroom units.
Community Sponsored
In 1992, the Grinnell Mansion Congregate Home, Inc. was formed and received broad support both from public and private sectors of the community. The supportive services funding is provided by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and Title III of the Older Americans Act.
